Last week, ex-Islander Sherif Lanre was axed from the hit reality show Love Island. After no statements were made, it left viewers in speculation over why he left in the first place.
One rumor suggested that Sherif broke, fellow contestant, Anton’s wrist after a heated discussion about his partner Anna. Whilst another source claimed he had broken the villa’s rules by masturbating in the hot tub. (this was strongly rejected!)
Finally, we now know the REAL reason the South Londoner left the show.
During an interview with The Sun, Sherif revealed that he was kicked out for accidentally kicking islander Molly-Mae in the crotch during a play fight. He then proceeded to call it a “c*** punt” – a crude joke which resulted in bosses asking him to leave the show immediately. His continued to say: “As someone raised by a strong and loving mother, I want to say that I would never intentionally offend women.”
“I was completely wrong and I apologise.”
In an interview with The Sun Sherif added: “I was the only black man in the villa and I was kicked out after ten days.”
“In my opinion, what happened was unconscious racism.
“There was, I felt, sexism. I feel I wouldn’t have been given that red card if I was a white woman.” (read more at The Sun)
Fans of the show found it hard to believe that this was the sole reason for his departure, arguing that had it been a different islander, the same actions probably would not have been applied. What do you think?
